About Us

WHO WE ARE

For 110 years and counting, the Heat & Frost Insulators & Allied Workers of Local 22 have strived to provide qualified mechanical insulators to the twenty-two counties surrounding the Houston and Golden Triangle area, as well as the rest of the country.  In partnership with our DOL certified Apprenticeship Program, Continuing Education and journeyman upgrades, Local 22 is prepared to embrace the influx of work along the Gulf Coast.  Our education facility has up to 15,000 square feet of classroom space including a material application center, and we can provide onsite training through our mobile learning unit.  We are the mechanical insulation and metal jacketing experts!

Chartered in April of 1912, and located at 2403 Jackson St. in Houston, the first officer of Local 22 was Thomas B. Reed, who stayed in an officer's capacity until 1939.  Our Union has been involved in the building and growth of the Houston, Beaumont, and Galveston areas since our inception, when the population was 78,000 and ranked 68th in the country.  Our craft has been instrumental in in building Houston to the 4th largest city in the nation, with a population of over 2 million people, by providing mechanical insulation that helps cool our city for our comfort, and grow the petrochemical economy by providing energy efficiency.  Our jurisdiction has 22 counties, including refineries and plants in the Golden Triangle area from Beaumont and Port Arthur to the South Texas Nuclear Facility, along the 50 mile stretch of the Ship Channel from the Port of Galveston up to Kyle Field at Texas A&M; all which have the signature of our craftspeople, including many commercial icons such as the Astrodome, Minute Maid Park, Reliant Center, Toyota Center, and the vast Medical Center.

Mission Statement

To create an environment that educates our members in their development as craftspersons, providing our contractors with the best qualified workforce, and understanding what it means to be Union.
